Tools to get organized

Whether you’re a new webmaster or pulling down a six-figure income, I’d bet at some point you’ve said “I need to get organized!” As long as I’m here chatting daily anyway, I’m going to provide some ideas for tools to help you do exactly that - get organized and manage all the information you’re going to be trying to juggle.

Today’s tool was a “Oh what the hell choice” at Staples, but I really think it works well. Many of us have played with the idea of a daily planner, but it doesn’t work for us. For me, it was that the boxes were SO TINY - and since every day was dated it felt wasteful. I’d forget to use it for a couple days and then I’d say “Fuck this” and go back to a yellow legal notepad.

Then I tried a teacher’s planner. What’s nice about it is that they are UNDATED so you can start whenever (no more “I’ll do this at the beginning of the month/quarter/year”). They also have HUGE boxes (woot!) and are very free form. I write my major projects down the side and then try to do at least one job for each project every day. If you’re really motivated, you can even use the grading sheets at the back to track traffic for galleries or sponsor programs, if you want to keep a record.

I’m not that motivated, but you COULD.

You can find teacher’s planners at any office supply store - here’s a link to one from Staples - and they’re generally really inexpensive. Mine was on sale for $10, your mileage may vary.
