Why Adult HubPage clones won’t work
At least, not like you think. With the end of adult hubs on HubPages, a lot of people are freaking out and advertising for someone to make them a script so they can have an “adult hubpages”. They are seeing huge dollar signs and thinking they could hit the jackpot if they only could snag a script for it. That they would make a ton of money and everyone would list with them.
But in my opinion it won’t work. There will be no adult hubpages anywhere near as successful as the original. And the reason why can be summed up in one word.
Google.
To explain this, let me ask - why did everyone flock to hubpages in the first place? Well simply put because it was receiving VERY high ranking in Google. So a well written hub could almost overnight catapult you to a top Google ranking, meaning BIG bucks. Hell I made about $210 in a couple days just fooling around with a couple pages. I never put a lot of work into it.
And the reason HubPages was getting those high Google scores? Well, let’s think about it for a minute - who was the number one advertiser on HubPages? Yup, you guessed right - Google AdSense. So it was strictly a case of one hand washing the other. Google gave HubPages a bit of a seo boost, and in return HubPages sent them all kinds of targeted AdSense traffic. This isn’t rocket science.
And once HubPages was big enough, they told adult hub page masters to take a hike. Hell, with so many folks flooding them trying to make a fast buck in adult there were probably a ton of Google AdSense violations as people built hubs but didn’t label them mature. And I’d bet that’s why they’re removing the mature pages - nobody has enough time to check every single page for these violations. Easier to just set up a filter and nuke any page which has any common porn words on it, and preserve all that Google AdSense revenue. If I’m honest with myself, it’s what I would do.
So when someone builds that “adult hubpages clone” what is the one thing that will be missing? Why Google of course. No Google ads, no pop in search engine rankings because Google isn’t promoting this service. In fact, you’re going to end up with just another directory folks.
I wish whoever does it well. And I could be wrong. Some of the biggest names are working on their own adult hubpages clones right now. And will I build some pages on them? You bet. But I don’t think it will ever be as big as HubPages was in it’s prime - just like tube sites, the half life of this phenomenon was really REALLY small. Rather than try to replicate the formula, folks would be further ahead trying to make something new.
